How to Get Rid of Dry Skin

How to Get Rid of Dry Skin
Getting rid of dry skin doesn’t have to be hard. Drink lots & say NO to synthetic product!

The horrors of dry skin are well known to womankind. How to get rid of dry skin? We’ve been conditioned to view this as a major issue, but the good news is that it isn’t too difficult to help you skin feel good again! Usually when we want to combat dry skin we turn to a mass-produced product full of all sorts of ingredients. In most cases, while these products might give the appearance of providing moisture in the short term, the problem itself still exists within the system. Indeed, healthy skin most definitely is not a quick fix. If you truly want to know how to get rid of dry skin then it’s also a good idea to have a general idea of how skin works.

The Basics to Dry Skin

It’s basic advice and you’ve probably heard it before, but for most people proper skin care starts with being hydrated. This of course means, drink more water! If you’re a healthy person with a healthy lifestyle then it’s likely that your skin will be able to look after itself just fine. While this is ideally the case, the reality is that our lifestyles are often hectic and our general health might not necessarily be as good as we’d like. Hey, we’re all at least a little guilty of this, don’t feel too bad ;)

Tight and Scaly Skin

Usually this is due to your skin’s oil barrier losing its effectiveness. This is most often caused by shifts in our environment such as fluctuations between warm/cold and humid/dry seasonal changes. Instead of letting skin readjust itself we often cover it with a synthetic oily film which physically blocks water loss. This of course gives the appearance of more moisture (due to less water loss), but it’s not a healthy way to help your skin. It gets worse when we follow up with other products which contain petrochemicals, dyes (in the case of makeup) and other invasive chemicals.

How to Treat Dry Skin

It’s important to feed dry skin with natural substances that resemble the skin’s own oils and properties. Essential fatty acids, oily (but not necessarily heavy) and triglyceride-rich substances work best, provided that they aren’t also supplied in conjunction with other undesirables (ie, petrochemicals and so on). Therefore, the best way to combat dry skin is to remain well hydrated throughout the day, and if you do choose to apply any topical products, then be sure to use natural products that contain no synthetic chemicals. Really, the simpler the better in terms of product ingredients. That’s why we strive to keep it simple!
